Miscellaneous on October 25th, 2009

I actually wanted to post that entry even yesterday, but I somehow never got around to do it. When I got home Friday night I realized that I hadn’t posted that my mom was discharged already on Friday and back home again. I should have posted that right away, but I was so busy throughout the day. She was supposed to be discharged on Saturday (or even later), so on Friday morning it took some phonecalls and organization to have one of my brothers pick her up, but it worked and she was home before 11 AM.
I spent most of the day over at her place to catch up and be there if she needed me to take care of some stuff. It was also Bro3’s birthday, so there was cake :-) The rest of the day I spent working on my termpaper for a while and writing my Grey’s review, before I had to get ready for the very low-key birthday celebrations at Bro3’s favourite pub. We had a great time and I drank much more alcohol than usual, because Bro3 was paying. It’s true that it’s really risky, if you don’t have to pay for your own drinks, because you loose count. At least I did and even though I didn’t really drink that much or anything stronger than a “Radler” (a traditional German beer/soda mix), I was kind of drunk when I left. And we had a really great time. I just hated that my clothes and my hair smelled like I had spent the night sleeping in an ashtray. Why do I have to live in the only country without a effective smoking ban ?

Besides the usual Saturday madness (sleeping in, grocery shopping, driving Bro2 and Bro3 somewhere) I spent most of yesterday (the afternoon at least) working on my termpaper again. I think I’m finally getting somewhere with the parts that troubled me before. But maybe that’s just because I finally decided to work with the line of argument I got, even though it feels like it’s an incomplete one. But I just can’t figure out what to add and I don’t want to spend the remaining week to think about that, when there are still so many other parts that I need to work on. And to actually write it all down in a scholarly way and not just random notes and bullet points and all that. I still have quite a lot of work to do, so it’s good I took tomorrow off from work. I will spend some of the day at my Mom’s again, this time to supervive the techs from the who will set up the phone/internet connection for Bro2’s new house.

I finally managed to continue watching “The West Wing” this week and finally finished season 5. Not sure what to think of that cliffhanger this time. But it was so wonderful to be back at the White House and to see Josh again. Dorky, lovable, jealous Josh. The scenes in the army hospital were so so awesome. And that photographer wasn’t too shabby either. I have a thing for guys with any kind of british accent. I looked him up at the IMDB.com and was really suprised that he’s the actor playing Lucius Malfoy. Didn’t recognize him at all on The West Wing, but who would expect Lucius Malfoy at the White House. (Ok, technically he wasn’t at the White House *g*).
In other TV show news: I think I’m finally dropping “Glee”. I haven’t watched this week’s episode and I’m not sure I will. I enjoyed the first few (welll two or three) episodes, because it was an extraordinary idea for a show. But after a while I just realized that the over the top and clichéd characters were getting on my nerves way too much. Yes, it’s a comedy, but still, the characters should have some more depths, shouldn’t they? The show also lacks a “ship” for me *g* I just don’t care enough about any of the actual or potential couples on the show and I always like “shipping” someone. After watching the 4th episode of Private Practice I’m seriously considering dropping that show too. I actually liked it ok during the first two seasons, but somehow I’m not getting into it this time. It feels… off, somehow, don’t know how to explain it.
I still absolutely LOVE Brothers & Sisters. Well, most of it at least and the storylines I love make up for the few ones I care less about. Robert is back to being the great guy I fell for (and not just the overly-ambitious politician) and I really really love Scotty and Kevin. They are such a cute couple. Maybe sometime in November I will also find the time to watch the second seaons of “Raising The Bar”, which was aired over the summer, completely unnoticed by me. I enjoyed it very much last year, so I’m definitely going to check it out again. There are a couple of more shows I might/will/should give a try, when I find the time and feel like watching new stuff. I’m a bit reluctant to do that at the moment, probably because I’m afraid I might be disappointed and have wasted precious time, which I could have used for watching “The West Wing” :-)

Tonight I’m off to watch some hockey again. Iserlohn against Wolfsburg. One of my favourite players transfered from Iserlohn to Wolfsburg and I really hope to be able to met him after the game, because I really want to have this large photo signed by him. So, wish me luck tonight. In Germany there is this phrase “Scherben bringen Glück” which means something like: if you break something (into shards) you’ll get lucky. I really hope so, because the glass of the large picture frame shattered, when I wanted to put it away after getting out the photo. So I really hope I’ll manage to get him to sign it tonight.

I actually also wanted to post the project365 photos of last week, but I guess that will have to wait until after the hockey game tonight.
